At Garden Home Yoga and Wellness we offer a variety of classes in yoga, meditation and Ayurvedic health management as well as individual yoga sessions and therapeutic consultations.
New Community Donation Class
There will be a new Beginning/Intermediate yoga class offered on Wednesday mornings from 9:00-10:15 AM. The class will be followed by an optional half-hour meditation. People may quietly leave after yoga or arrive for the meditation at 10:15. Class is by donation. Pay what you can or feel inspired to offer.
Gentle Joint Mobility Yoga class has three main components. First, we focus on building and maintaining full range of motion in all the joints of the body; then we practice modified classical yoga postures using props such as chairs, blankets, and bolsters in order to ensure that everyone can realize the benefits of each pose; and we end with a deep relaxation session to combat stress and fatigue. This class is appropriate for those with limited range of motion and experience and those who want a gentle, therapeutic practice that nurtures the body and the mind.
Gentle Yoga is a class that follows the same format as a Beginning Class, but with a slower pace and lower level of difficulty in both the mechanics of the poses and in the length of time the poses are held. Props are used for support and comfort.
Extra-Gentle Chair Yoga offers a gentle, yet rigorous, sequence of yoga postures modified for those who are not comfortable getting down on the floor and who may have challenges with balance. A range of options are given for those who would like to remain seated for all or most of the class to those who would like to do some standing postures with the support of the chair. The class focuses on maintaining and enhancing joint mobility and muscle tone.
Beginning Yoga is for those who want to practice at a more detailed level of instruction to become familiar with the poses and increase body awareness.
Beginning/Intermediate Yoga class is appropriate for beginners as well as those who want to begin exploring their range of ability. A range of options is available for any pose and participants are encouraged to stay within their ability level.
Shape-Up Yoga uses breathing, stretching and strengthening exercises with a focus on the core, hips and shoulders in order to practice classical yoga poses in a whole new way! Be prepared to work hard in this class, and feel your body transform! All exercises may be modified and practiced to the capacity of your own body's wisdom. This class is appropriate for bodies without significant structural compromises or injuries.
Restorative Yoga sessions are the ultimate in relaxation and renewal. This passive form of yoga involves placing the body in comfortable, nurturing positions using lots of props such as pillows, blankets and bolsters and then relaxing in the pose for a length of time. This form of yoga is ideal for stress reduction and healing from injury or surgery (with doctor's permission). People are often pleasantly surprised at the deep level of energetic opening and stretching that can occur in this practice. This class is appropriate for those who can move down to and up from the floor.
Parent and Child Yoga uses activities, poses, games, and art to provide an interactive yoga experience for parent and child together. We learn breathing techniques, practice classical yoga poses and partner poses before we end with a guided visualization. No previous yoga experience is required, but participants should have good basic mobility.
Private instruction is for those who wish an individual session to focus on a particular issue or to move to a deeper level of understanding about how their own body moves.
Therapeutic sessions that address chronic illnesses and specific health issues are available by appointment. Call Sandi and 971-242-1126 or email sandi@gardenhomeyoga.com

Yoga Therapy
Yoga Therapy is a new and growing field that has emerged as a result of research on the effectiveness of classical yoga practices in healing. Western-trained physicians and alternatively trained healers are increasingly referring patients to yoga therapists to support the common goal of healing and well-being. Exciting alliances are being forged as we speak among the western and eastern perspectives in medicine. Yoga therapy is just one aspect of this emerging collaboration.
Classical yoga therapy has been practiced for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. It uses the practices of breathwork, cleansing, right diet and lifestyle, and exercise to bring balance and enhanced health and well-being to the body and mind. Yoga therapy is practiced in the old style of one person with one teacher and is completely individualized for a person's unique being.
The practice begins with an evaluation followed by a suggested treatment plan which you help create and includes at least one follow-up session to monitor progress and adjust the plan according to your needs. Services are provided at an hourly rate and are offered by appointment. Please feel free to call or email with any questions you may have. I truly enjoy practicing and talking about yoga therapy and would be happy to do so free of charge.
Introduction to Meditation
For those who are not sure if meditation is for them. In this class we will discuss what meditation is and is not; why you might want to meditate; the basic steps to preparing for meditation; and step-by-step instruction on one specific meditation technique. We will end class with a brief guided practice of this meditation technique. Questions are encouraged and welcomed. This is not a religious practice, and can be incorporated into any spiritual tradition.
Learn to Meditate Series
For those who have taken the Introduction to Meditation course and want to learn more about the many aspects of meditation; explore other types of meditation; and want a guided, group meditation experience; as well as a forum to ask questions and get individual help with issues that may arise.
Yoga and Meditation
Yoga postures literally originated as a tool to prepare the body for meditation. The flow of one to another is beautiful and harmonious.
This class begins with a 75-minute meditative yoga practice with affirmations that focuses mainly on energy movement and is adaptable to all levels of mobility. After the yoga portion of the class, students may quietly leave or stay for 15 minutes of silent meditation.
If you aren't familiar with meditation at all, it is recommended that you take the Introduction to Meditation first or arrange for a private session ahead of time to familiarize you with the technique as well as the preparatory steps to ensure the best possible meditation experience. This is also an opportunity for questions and answers, as well as individual assistance, which are not built into the Yoga and Meditation class, which is meant to be an uninterrupted flow from yoga postures into meditation.
